Many skin experts agree that vitamin C or ascorbic acid is one of the most potent substances out there when it comes to fighting off wrinkles. In fact, in a report made by Newsweek magazine (online), vitamin C-based skin care products are cited as one of the better alternatives to other known effective products like tretinoin (prescription required) and retinol products as well as exfoliating products that contain over-the-counter or prescription amounts of alpha hydroxyl acid (AHA).

Cellex C

One of the foremost experts in the production of topical skin care products based on vitamin C is a company known as Cellex-C. They actually produce a whole line of products that aim to protect, correct and enhance the skin and have conducted at least one clinical trial to show the effectiveness of their anti aging treatment formula and system.

Cellex-C High Potency Serum

One of their products is a wrinkle treatment serum that they call the Cellex-C High Potency Serum which is a “lightweight, oil-free formulation containing the full complement of Cellex-C signature ingredients.” It is a anti wrinkle product that aims to firm up the skin and bring it back to its youthful and elastic state that young skin is well-known for.

They claim that regular use of this product will result to looking 5 to 10 years younger and it is quite suitable to any skin types except those that are extremely sensitive.

Aside from ascorbic acid (particularly the L-ascorbic acid), its formula includes tyrosine, zinc, sodium hyaluronate, bio flavonoids. These formula form what the company call a “Patented Cellex-C Complex” which they claim to be the heart and soul of their anti aging products line.

Can Vitamin C Be Absorbed Through The Skin?

Yes, but only if the formulation is done right. Vitamin C actually has a lot of forms and derivatives and most of them will not have the right molecule size so as to be absorbed by the skin.

The key to this problem using a derivative named as the L-ascorbic acid. Furthermore, you will need to bring the pH level of the L-ascorbic acid to between 2 to 4 for it to be absorbed through the skin. When done right, L-ascorbic acid can be absorbed by the skin 100%!

Clinical Trials

In one study sponsored by Cellex-C, they noted that about 84.2% of participants observed reduction in wrinkles. The study design used an objective wrinkle evaluation system called optical profilometry which entails creating silicone molds of the participants’ facial profile. This enabled them to compare the topographical profile of the faces before and after treatment.
